Enchanted Rock SNA - Fredericksburg, Texas

Enchanted Rock more lovingly known as eRock, is a gigantic pink granite exfoliation dome in Texas Hill Country. It's my favorite place in Texas (so far ;) and it's located a short distance from the charming town of Fredericksburg.

FM 965 heading west from SH 16 is particularly lovely during wildflower season (Mar-May)
when bluebonnets and other Texas wildflowers line the roadway to the park.

The gazebo at the beginning of several trails is a nice place to learn about the history & geology of this magical place.

You might find yourself between a rock and a hard place!
Peculiar rock formations abound

Amazingly flowers bloom from the solid rock.

Many just hike the 1.2 mile hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock, but Turkey Peak, Buzzard's Roost and Little Rock are two great areas worth the trek for you adventuresome types or those seeking the less beaten path.
Little Rock is ideal for those seeking a little seclusion.

Great Rock Climbing Opportunities
Before you go: The best time to visit is from October through April when the weather is cooler. April is typically wildflower season and the park will be more crowded than usual. There is little cover from the sun and summer temperatures often exceed 90 degrees, so wear appropriate clothing and bring lots of water, sunscreen and a snack to enjoy taking in the incredible 360ยบ views from the top. If you like to hike, once you have hiked the Summit Trail, go next door and hike Little Rock and take a picnic lunch. Camping is mostly primitive and hike-in, a few accessible sites are sunny and lack privacy and all sites book well in advance-especially weekends.

My best advice: This is a very popular park with limited access and if you arrive late morning (10-10:30am) you will likely find yourselves lined up out on FM 965 roasting in your vehicle waiting for someone to leave.
