Enchanted Rock more lovingly known as eRock, is a gigantic pink granite exfoliation dome in Texas Hill Country. It's my favorite place in Texas (so far ;) and it's located a short distance from the charming town of Fredericksburg.
FM 965 heading west from SH 16 is particularly lovely during wildflower season (Mar-May) when bluebonnets and other Texas wildflowers line the roadway to the park. |
The gazebo at the entrance to the 1.2 mile Summit Trail |
The gazebo at the beginning of several trails is a nice place to learn about the history & geology of this magical place.
You might find yourself between a rock and a hard place! |
Peculiar rock formations abound |
Many just hike the 1.2 mile hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock, but Turkey Peak, Buzzard's Roost and Little Rock are two great areas worth the trek for you adventuresome types or those seeking the less beaten path.
Little Rock is ideal for those seeking a little seclusion. |

Great Rock Climbing Opportunities |
My best advice: This is a very popular park with limited access and if you arrive late morning (10-10:30am) you will likely find yourselves lined up out on FM 965 roasting in your vehicle waiting for someone to leave.
